Benjamin Sonsky
Benjamin Sonsky was born Benjamin Rozhansky in the small shtetl of Yashinovke in Russia in 1878 to Chaya and Nachum (Nathan) Rozhansky (there is no indformation on the birth and death dates of Chaya and Nachum). He became a tailor by trade and spent a short time as a soldier in the service of the Czar of Russia. While in Russia, he met and married Celia Chinsky. While in Russia they had three daughters, Ida, Pauline and Sadie.
They emigrated from Russia in the early 1900's and landed in Montreal, Quebec, Canada where Benjamin shortened the family name from Rozhansky to Sonsky. While in Montreal, they had a fourth daughter, Sarah. In 1916, they left Canada for the United States, and settled in Brooklyn, New York. There, they had a fifth child, a son named Frank.
Benjamin Died in 1965 in Brooklyn, NY at the age of 87. He is buried in Beth David Cemetery in the plot reserved for the Chevre Kadisha Anshe Yashinovke.
