Ruth Greenwald Amkraut
Ruth Greenwald was born on January 26, 1943 in New York. She grew up in Brooklyn and Long Island. Ruth spent all of her summers since the age of 2 at Cejwin Camps in Port Jervis, NY where her parents served as staff (Frances Katchen Greenwald worked in the administration office and Edward Greenwald spent some years as the head caretaker of the camp.
After Frances's death from ovarian cancer when Ruth was 16, she was provided with mothering guidance from her aunt, Dotty Katchen Osgood. She graduated from the Hebrew Institute of Long Island and From Queens College. She married Julian Selig Amkraut onThanksgiving, November 25, 1965 in Huntington, Long Island, NY. Ruth had four children, but desired more (she had five miscarriages0
She died on May 25, 1988 at Sloan-Kettering Hospital in NYC after a two-year battle with cervical cancer and a subsequent case of leukemia.
